As a former food stamp kid, I know that I wouldn't be where I am today without PA Public Schools, and being a mom makes the fight for public education all the more personal. Every child in the Commonwealth deserves quality public schools regardless of their racial background and ZIP code. I will fight to fully and fairly fund our public schools while shifting the burden away from our property tax payers. I will support curriculums that not only teach for a test but also will teach life skills to prepare our students for the realities of their future. Most importantly, I will support initiatives that help our schools recognize and address mental health issues and will advocate for our teachers and counselors so they have the resources necessary to provide a quality education in a safe environment.
Healthcare costs, including emergency care and prescription drug costs, are on the rise, making affordable care unattainable for middle class families and our most vulnerable citizens alike. As State Representative, I will work to preserve Medicaid expansion and the Children’s Health Insurance Program to ensure that no family has to worry about how they’ll pay for necessary medical care. I will likewise work to reduce the costs of prescription drugs and fight to ensure that our veterans and first responders have access to adequate mental and physical health care. In addition, I will fight to protect women's reproductive rights and work to ensure that ZIP code does not determine access to quality health care .
Pennsylvania is in need of government reform at all levels. As State Representative, I will be committed to reforming our government by fighting for increased access for voting and campaign finance reform to remove the influence of corporate special interests and give government back to the people. Additionally, I will advocate for the creation of an independent commission for redistricting to eliminate gerrymandering in Pennsylvania.
As your State Representative, creating well-paying jobs will be a top priority for me. I will fight for jobs that are sustainable and pay a living wage through an increase in the minimum wage for all skill levels. I will fight for workplace protections statewide to offset federal rollbacks, and will continue to support our unions in their efforts to protect Commonwealth employees and all Pennsylvania workers.
Harrisburg was recently designated fourth in the country for worst air quality, and I have studied extensively how Black and Brown communities bear the brunt of environmental degradation. Addressing climate change will be one of my top priorities as State Representative. The legislature must address the poor air quality across the Commonwealth and explore alternative energy sources to natural gas and fossil fuels in order to protect our climate and children.
On average, over 36,000 Americans die from gun violence each year, and as a mom, I never want my kids to live in fear of gun violence. As your State Representative I will be an advocate for common sense gun laws. I support safe storage laws, universal background checks, banning ghost guns, and increased access to mental health resources.
